The end of the year is the warmest reason for a shoot: lights, anticipation, and the wish to keep the year in pictures. It is also the busiest season for photographers — December dates get booked back in November. Here are the formats that work best and how to build a holiday shoot that doesn't look like everyone else's.
When to book
In November. December weekends and evening slots by the city illuminations go first; by mid-December only weekday mornings remain. You also need time for editing: if you want to send photos to family for the holidays or get prints done, leave at least 2–3 weeks before New Year.
Three formats that work
1. Evening city and lights
Garlands, shop windows, decorated streets — a ready-made set. We shoot at blue hour, when the illuminations switch on and the sky is still deep. In Belgrade it's beautiful around Knez Mihailova and the squares; in Madrid — on Gran Vía, whose holiday lights are among the most famous in Europe. Spots and timing are in the Belgrade and Madrid guides.
2. Cosy studio or interior
Warm light, a blanket, candles, a tree — an intimate story for a family or a couple. In a studio we don't depend on weather or temperature, kids stay comfortable, and the frames feel "homely" without the clutter of a real home.
3. A mini "year in review" session
A short 30–40 minute shoot: one look, one location, 10 frames. Perfect for refreshing your portraits for the new year, making photos for holiday cards — or gifting a shoot certificate, the most popular present of the season.
What to wear
Winter favours warm textures: wool, chunky knit, velvet. Deep tones — burgundy, emerald, graphite, cream — and one accent rather than a scatter of sequins. For families, build one palette of 2–3 shades without matching sweaters. The full breakdown is in the what to wear guide.
Short-day light
In winter the sun stays low and soft almost all day, and sunset comes around four or five — golden hour fits even a lunch break. In the evening, the city lights take over. How to pick the time for your date — here.
How to book
Message me on Telegram with your date and format — I'll shape the shoot around your idea: the look, the location and the time, and I'll take the whole process on myself. I shoot in Belgrade, Madrid, Paris and across Europe; prices and terms are on the pricing page. A gift certificate for a shoot is also available — the favourite holiday format.
